Happy New Year!

Yes, technically I am not in Hong Kong yet, but my new blog looks so bare :/ So I'm fixing that with an introductory post. :)

As told from the subtitle I'll be studying at Hong Kong University for the semester. Read about HKU here. As of right now I'm enrolled in one class, which is Ecology & Evolution or something? I don't remember. But once I get over there I'll be able to add more classes. Hopefully Parasitology, Virology, a class on Jane Austen in Popular Culture, and one about American Haunted houses. We'll see though...

So right now I am ridiculously freaked out about it all. I didn't have time to think much about it until after I took the OAT...yesterday! So now that I'm free to think about it it's all just piled up on me in the past 24 hours to make up for it. That weirdo Amy said she wasn't freaked out about when she went to Hong Kong, but she's a weirdo. But I figure the more freaked out about it I am, the more it's something that I probably should do...I mean, me being ME and not liking public transportation and never trying anything new and never getting outside of my comfort zone, this whole going abroad thing is probably a good idea.

Not that I was ever seriously thinking about backing out (I mean, I've entertained the thought), but being scared, along with thinking about how this is going to affect my future (i.e. graduating on time, making my application stronger for Optometry school), made me doubt myself sometimes. But I figure the experience of living abroad is worth it. I'll worry about that stuff as it approaches...

SO. Starting this blog. I'm leaving for Berkeley on the 3rd (those adventures will probably be chronicled here too), leaving from San Francisco to Hong Kong on the 5th, and arriving on the 6th. To spend my 21st birthday the next day all alone on the other side of the world :( I'll buy myself something nice...

Comment and let me know what you think! And check back for pics/videos/other stuff!

  1. Thanks for forcing me to write a comment, even though I am sitting 5 feet away from you RIGHT NOW

WATCH YOUR LUGGAGE. DON'T LET ANYONE SLIP MYSTERIOUS THINGS IN IT. DON'T GO ANYWHERE BY YOURSELF. DON'T GET PULLED INTO MINIVANS BY HK TRIADS. DON'T LOOK UP IN THE STREETS OF MONGKOK. LOOK RIGHT FIRST, CARS DRIVE ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE ROAD. It's trippy.

  2. Don't get kidnapped by a human trafficker. They might mistake you for a preteen girl. :)
